Summary: Responsible for inspection of the pipe and metal fabrication shop(s). Visually inspect and verify welding and fabricated components.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Communicate inspection status and identify deficiencies to the applicable project manager, shop foremen and shop supervisor. Document inspections on a daily basis.

  • Understand and interpret ASME and AWS codes, specifications and customer requirements. Understand addenda and interpretation of jurisdictional law and regulations.

  • Verify compliance with quality assurance procedures, codes and customer specifications. Verify material marking requirements. Understand material contamination issues for stainless steel materials. Verify correct filler wire for the materials and processes being used.

  • Responsible for performing magnetic particle and liquid penetrant NDE processes.

  • Perform NDE inspection methods such as Positive Material Identification and Hardness Testing.

  • Use PWHT (Post Weld Heat Treat) equipment and perform PWHT as necessary.

  • Inspect welding and some dimensional piping and metal fabricated components.

  • Inspect GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, GTAW and SAW welding processes.

  • Read blueprints.

  • Understand weld symbols.

  • Review radiographs for required sensitivity, complete identification, and interpret results with occasional assistance from Level III. Schedule radiography for each shipment or job.

  • Schedule authorized inspector (AI) for required inspections and complete sign-off of weld travelers. Assist in measuring equipment calibration as directed by the QC Supervisor or QA Manager.

  • Ability to travel to all shop locations at any time during the work week.

  • May be required to travel to field sites for two to four weeks at a time with limited notice.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No direct supervisory responsibilities. Will oversee the quality process and assist in the supervision of on-site employees to ensure quality programs and regulations are being followed.

Qualifications

Qualifications – To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience:

  • At least three years fabrication quality experience and/or training.

  • Shop experience in on-site inspections and field repair alterations.

  • AWS CWI certification required prior to joining the company or within six to nine months of employment.

  • Magnetic particle (MP) and liquid penatrant (PT) NDE Level II certification desired.

  • Familiar with the following welding procedures: Gas Metal (GMAW), Shielded Metal (SMAW), Fluxed Core (FCAW), SMAW, Gas Tungsten (GTAW), and Submerged (SAW).

  • Ability to read blueprints and understand weld symbols.

Computer Skills:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a strong background in Microsoft Office Products including Excel, Access, and Word. Bluebeam experience desired.

Other Qualifications:

  • Background and knowledge (and ability to become certified) in level II in MT and PT certifications, as well as NDE processes for particle and liquid penetrant.
